yeats threat

Personally I'd (1) take the site down & (2) get an attorney. (You
might avoid having to pay for use of the material if you write a letter
pointing out that this was for educational purposes only and not as
commercial site, and there was no money made from posting the material.)

It may be an idle threat, and it may not be one. Regardless of how you
"feel" about copyright, and fair use, the law is fairly clear, and
copyright holder can and will threaten & sue successfully.

There's one fellow I know who has a regular little business in
successfully threatening copyright infringement lawsuits and collecting
($500 in one case I know for unauthorized use of a brilliant quotation
-- he argues that he makes his living on these brilliant sayings and no
use is fair use.)

EFF may say otherwise, but then, ask them if they're prepared to pay
your legal fees.

Another thought: a simple search through altavista shows 1200+
references to W.B. Yeats. Many of these hit are sites containg Yeats
material. You might contact people who run these sites and present some
kind of a unified front.
