Book People Archive

Re: Book People mailing list to end at the end of the month

yeah, well, it all got pretty boring after i left, didn't it? ;+)

p.s. in press-runs of the size done by the big publishers,
the p/p/b cost (paper/printing/binding) is $1-$2 per book.
the author's share might come to a whopping $1-$2 as well.
yet by the time that book gets to a bookstore, it can cost $16.
_somebody_ must be siphoning off some money somewhere,
and i doubt it's the people at the bottom of the pecking order.

of course, if your accountants are good, no one will ever know,
and when you're siphoning, you can hire the best accountants...

[Moderator: Just in case you or others missed it, there were some posts in the
ealier price thread that had more details on other slices of the pie, such as
http://onlinebooks.library.upenn.edu/webbin/bparchive?year=2007&post=2007-10-12,4
(the example in that post is for a book retailing for $10, though the
printing and author cost parts are in line with Bowerbird's figure above)
