Matthew Lipman and Ann Margaret Sharp: Philosophy for Children's Educational Revolution. SpringerBriefs in Education
SpringerBriefs in Education. 2023.
This book explores the contribution to education contained in the theoretical work and teaching practice of Matthew Lipman (1923-2010) and Ann Margaret Sharp (1942-2010). Their long-lasting cooperation gave rise to the well-known "Philosophy for Children" (P4C) curriculum, which is nowadays globally widespread. P4C basically relies on the following innovations: firstly, the unprecedented connection between philosophy and childhood; secondly, the reframing of philosophy in practical, viz., not reductively theoretical terms; thirdly, the employment of philosophy to foster democracy and moral capabilities through the development of children's thoughtfulness and autonomous thinking, which would eventually result in empowering children's social abilities and increasing their self-defence against consumerism, propaganda, and manipulation; finally, the stand against a strictly cognitivist approach to education. More than just contextualizing these innovations in the coeval historical and social context, the author shows that P4C's revolutionary stance on education relies on the fruitfulness of Lipman and Sharp's intellectual cooperation and on their manifold abilities as researchers, teachers, trainers, communicators, motivators, and community-builders. The book analyzes their philosophical-educational vision and the scholastic curriculum they developed jointly; additionally, it provides a critical appraisal of P4C's achievements as well as of its future perspectives.

Izquierda sin revolución, los dilemas de la época.
Utopia y Praxis Latinoamericana. abr-jun2024, Vol. 29 Issue 105, p1-11. 11p.
Around 1979, with the Nicaraguan revolution, the cycle of anti-capitalist revolutions of the 20th century was closed. Due to the subsequent failure of these attempts (with capitalist economic regression, from China to Russia and from Algeria to Vietnam) and due to the appearance of postmodern culture, the revolution is outside the historical horizon. Does it make sense, then, for the left to continue? On the one hand, the reasons for that epochal failure have not been evaluated. On the other, the criticism of capitalism is still valid, although not the models of society that accompanied it. Maintaining the social struggle and opening new options is what is possible today, linked to the effort that national/popular governments have made in Latin America to introduce into the democratic/bourgeois political system, the historical claims of the left. Revolución y reducción en Merleau-Ponty.
Tópicos. Revista de Filosofía. may-ago2023, Issue 66, p301-331. 31p.
This paper proposes a recentralization of Merleau-Ponty's political thought in order to give account, not only of a local aspect of his philosophy, but rather of a privileged interpretative key to understand the author's work as a whole. In this sense, we will argue in favor of the existence of an intimate relationship between phenomenological reduction and the internal logic of revolutionary processes. According to our reading, this relationship leads to the author's critical thinking of history and being-in-the-world. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

On Confucian Metaphysics, the Pragmatist Revolution, and Philosophy of Music Education
Philosophy of Music Education Review. Spr 2018 26(1):63-81.
Within the last few decades, scholars have uncovered remarkable similarities between Confucian and pragmatist philosophies. Given these resonances, how would a philosophy of music education founded on a synthesis of Confucian and pragmatist ideas look? How would such a philosophy compare with extant philosophies of music education? In this paper, I sketch Confucian and pragmatist metaphysics, meld ideas from the two philosophies, and proffer implications for music education. As I shall argue, a Confucian-pragmatist intercultural blend lends support to three historical movements in the philosophy of music education: the cultivation of morality through music, music education as aesthetic education, and the praxial philosophy of music education. It also illumines extant philosophies of music education in fresh ways. This essay extends a line of research on the application of comparative philosophy in contemporary music education.
