The American Magazine of Art was an American art magazine published in the early 20th century by the American Federation of Arts.

Publication History

The American Magazine of Art began in 1916 as the successor to Art and Progress. It continued the earlier magazine's volume and issue numbering. No issue or contribution copyright renewals were found for this serial. (More details) In 1937, the magazine changed its name to "The Magazine of Art" (which does have some contributions with renewed copyright), which ran until 1953.

Persistent Archives of Complete Issues

• 1916-1928: HathiTrust has volumes 7-19 freely readable online, along with volumes of its predecessor. (Part of volume 7 was published under the "Art and Progress" title.) Some later volumes are searchable but not readable.
• 1916-1928: JSTOR has volumes 7-19 freely readable online. Access to later volumes may require subscription or payment.
• 1923: The Internet Archive has volume 14 online.

Official Site / Current Material

• The American Federation of Arts, who published this magazine, is still in operation, though nowadays it appears to publish art catalogues and guides rather than magazines.
