American Anthropologist is the primary journal of the American Anthropological Assocation.

Publication History

American Anthropologist began publication in 1888, originally under the auspices of the Anthropological Society of Washington. A new series began in 1899. From 1903 it was published by the American Anthropological Society (now the American Anthropological Association) and related societies. No issue copyright renewals exist for this serial. It is still published today.

Persistent Archives of Complete Issues

• 1888-1922: JSTOR has the old series, and volumes 1-24 of the new series freely available for access. Later volumes require paid or subscription-based access.
• 1888-1922: HahitTrust has the old series, and volumes 1-24 of the new series freely available for access. Later volumes are searchable but not currently viewable online.
• 1890: Google Books has volume 3 of the journal's original series. Access may be restricted outside the US.
