The Militant

The Militant is an American socialist newpaper affiliated with what is now the Socialist Workers Party.

Publication History

The Militant was founded in 1928. In late 1934, when US socialist alliances changed, this paper was replaced with "The New Militant". Another faction began "Socialist Appeal" in 1935. (Both of those periodicals are listed separately.) "Socialist Appeal" in turn was renamed The Militant in 1941. No issue copyright renewals are known to exist for this newspaper. It is still published today.

• 1928-1934: The Marxists' Internet Archive has the first 7 volumes.
• 1941: The Marxists' Internet Archive has the 1941 issues of the incarnation that began that year. Volume numbering carried over from "Socialist Appeal", making this year volume 5.
• 1942: The Marxists' Internet Archive has volume 6 of the new incarnation.
• 1943: The Marxists' Internet Archive has volume 7 of the new incarnation.
• 1944: The Marxists' Internet Archive has volume 8.
• 1945: The Marxists' Internet Archive has volume 9.
• 1946: The Marxists' Internet Archive has volume 10.
• 1947: The Marxists' Internet Archive has volume 11.
• 1948: The Marxists' Internet Archive has volume 12.
• 1949: The Marxists' Internet Archive has volume 13.
• 1950: The Marxists' Internet Archive has volume 14. (The volume number may be mislabeled.) Check the Main Index link at the top and the bottom of the page to see if later issues have been added.
• 1995-present: The official Militant web site has back issues from 1995 onward on their site.
