The North American Review is a journal of literature and culture, published starting in the 19th century.

Publication History

The North American Review began publication in Boston in 1815, with 3 issues per year. It ran until 1940. In 1964, the magazine was revived in Iowa, and remains in publication there today.

Persistent Archives of Complete Issues

• 1815-1900: An archive at Cornell has page images of volumes 1-171, covering May 1815 - December 1900.
• 1815-1922: JSTOR provides volumes 1-216 free of charge through its Early Journals program. (For non-US readers, only volumes 1-110, through 1870, are freely viewable.) Later volumes required paid access.
• 1815-1869, 1871-1894, 1896-1899, 1907, 1917-1922: HathiTrust has volumes 1-109, 111-125, 127-144, 147-151, 153-155, 157-159, 162-168, 186, and 206-216, covering most issues through 1922.
