SERIAL ARCHIVE LISTINGS
for
The New York Times
The New York Times is a major American daily newspaper published in New York City.
Publication History
The New York Times began publishing on September 18, 1851 as the New York Daily Times. It is still published today.
Persistent Archives of Complete Issues
- 1851-1922,1986-2007: official New York Times web site has a searchable archive of its back content. Articles before 1922 and after 1986 are available free of charge; articles in between may require purchase.
- 1851-1852,1860-1866,1900-1907: An archive at the Universal Library has page images scanned from microfilm of some of the early years of the paper. The image quality is quite variable, with text often hard to read, particularly for the early years of this range. Later years tend to be in somewhat better shape. We would be happy to hear of other, more readable free archives for this newspaper.
Official Site / Current Material
- The official New York Times web site has current articles, information about the newspaper and New York, and an archive of past content (including years not covered by the free archive above.) Payment is required for most older articles, and registration may be required to see some current articles.)
