PMLA: Publications of the Modern Language Association of America is the primary journal of the Modern Language Association of America (also known as the MLA). It publishes scholarly articles on language and literature.

Publication History

PMLA began publication in 1884 as the Transactions of the Modern Language Association of America. Volume 4 was the first to carry the "Publications..." title. Copyright renewals were filed for the April 1951 issue, but apparently not for other issues before 1964. It is still published today.

• The MLA's official PMLA site has more information about the journal, as well as links to online copies of the full run. (Volumes after 1922 are currently only available through subscription sites run either by MLA or by JSTOR. JSTOR is also the only way I know of currently to access volume 24 (1909) online.)
