This 'memoir-manifesto' is a series of personal essays in which the author (who now uses they/them pronouns) describes growing up Black and queer in New Jersey and Virginia, and relates what they wish they and their friends knew in retrospect. The essays include descriptions of sex, and of sexual abuse as well as other traumatic incidents. The New York Public Library designated it as one of their Best Books for Teens in 2020.
