A short sketch of the life of Elijah Shaw, who served for twenty-two years in the Navy of the United States, taking an active part in four different wars between the United States & foreign powers; namely, first--with France, in 1798; second--with Tripoli, from 1802 to 1805; third--with England from 1812 to 1815; fourth--with Algiers, from 1815 to 1816: and assisted in subduing the pirates from 1822 to 1826, and in 1843 entered on board the old ship Zion, under a new commander, being in the 73d year of his age.
