    Description
    This document provides a list and abstracts of Escape and Evasion reports found in the Lloyd R. Shoemaker Collection (SMS 576). Escape and Evasion Reports (E&E), EX Reports, and Repatriation Reports were produced by MIS-X operatives who interviewed American airmen who successfully evaded capture, escaped imprisonment, or were liberated from enemy camps. Information gained from these interviews was used to ascertain the value of the training and tools they were provided, for the training of additional forces, and to help plan future rescue missions into enemy territory. These reports provide names, squadron information, assignments, crash locations, prison camp locations, and methods of escape. These reports also provide much more detailed information regarding enemy transportation, prison camp conditions, procedures for searching prisoners, access to parcels, and other information that might be useful for MIS-X intelligence purposes.     This collection was assembled largely from the files of the Historical Office of the Secretary of Defense between 1974 and 1998, as part of the research effort for the department’s official history Honor Bound: The History of American Prisoners of War in Southeast Asia, 1961-1973. As such, it focuses primarily American prisoners of war (POWs) who were held captive in Southeast Asia over the course of the Vietnam War, and various ancillary topics that surround their imprisonment. It also includes materials produced in the research process for the book, Honor Bound. This collection consists of 176 boxes containing documents, photographs, maps, artifacts, and audiovisual materials. These files were arranged topically by the donor of the collection and divided into 52 series by Special Collections staff, which are outlined in the finding aid.
