Adopting evidence-based best practices in human resources is important because they help minimize bias and increase objectivity in HR decisions, especially in selection and recruitment. Evidence also informs HR functions, such as diversity training, emotional intelligence--based selection, organizational change, and workplace stress interventions. Based on his experiences as a consultant and a professor of occupational psychology, Evans (Univ. of Greenwich, UK) offers key insights and presents a comprehensive review of the scholarly literature. Each chapter presents current research, provides conclusions with recommendations, and supplies between 20 and 100 references. Evans, however, asserts a lack of evidence-based research and questions the quality of existing research. Similar to developing scientific knowledge, HR professionals should build a shared bank of evidence-based knowledge to yield information that is transparent, credible, and of high quality. Public preregistration of HR studies is necessary to ensure that the studies and their results are not manipulated. Evans also advocates for in-house study initiatives and collaborations between academia and HR professionals.
