Dissociative identity disorder in the characters Mima and Rumi from Satoshi Kon's Perfect Blue
Japanese Research on Linguistics, Literature, and Culture, Vol 6, Iss 1, Pp 31-52 (2023)
The purpose of this study is to describe the Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) of the character Mima and Rumi, from “Perfect Blue” created by Satoshi Kon. The research approach is descriptive and qualitative. The data collection method involves observation and note-taking. The data analysis technique used is content analysis, where acquired data is analyzed to draw conclusions. Based on the research findings, 37 instances of DID data were identified, consisting of 3 instances of amnesia, 9 instances of depersonalization, 13 instances of derealization, 3 instances of identity crisis data, and 9 instances of identity change data. The conclusion emphasizes the fact that both Mima and Rumi experience symptoms of Dissociative Identity Disorder, such as amnesia, depersonalization, derealization, identity crisis, and changes in identity. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the complexity of the characters, offering insights into the portrayal of DID in fiction.

Health Risk Assessment of Heavy Metals on Total Suspended Particles in Semi Urban, Urban, and Industrial Areas, of Bandung Metropolitan Area, Indonesia
Ecological Engineering & Environmental Technology, Vol 24, Iss 5, Pp 131-140 (2023)
Total Suspended Particulates (TSP) in ambient air contain metallic elements and can be inhaled by humans. Inhaled metal elements risk public health with long-term exposure because metallic elements are carcinogenic in the human body. This study aimed to analyze metallic elements and assess their risk to public health in the Bandung area and its surroundings. The metal elements analyzed in this research are Pb, Al, and Mn. Ambient air sampling was carried out in five industrial areas: Bandung Wetan, Buahbatu, Cibeureum, Padalarang, and Cimahi. High Volume Air Sampler (HVAS) is for sampling TSP in ambient air, and X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) was used to analyze metallic elements. The results of the study showed that the Cimahi location gave the highest TSP level (126.7 g/m3) and the lowest is Padalarang (15.1µg/m3). The metal elements concentrations, Pb, Al, and Mn were varied widely of 7.1–29.21 ng/m3, 1054.9–1700.1 ng/m3, and 8.91–14.79 ng/m3, respectively. Risk analysis was determined by calculating ADDinhale, Hazard Quotient (HQ), and Hazard Index (HI) to determine whether there is a potential non–carcinogenic effect on public health. Each industrial area gives an HI value > 1, and Buahbatu has the highest HI. This study proves that Pb significantly contributes to the increased risk of community exposure to non-carcinogenic effects.

Eksistensi Perempuan Pada Manga Arte Karya Okubo Kei (Kajian Feminisme Eksistensial)
Izumi, Vol 12, Iss 1, Pp 88-96 (2023)
This research begins with several problems found around women, one of which is about gender equality. Because of these conditions, the research was conducted with the aim of knowing how women struggle in achieving their existence. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. This research data uses dialogues and pictures taken from the manga Arte as data sources. The data retrieval method used is a reading and note-taking technique. Data analysis techniques are presented descriptively. This study uses Simone de Beauvoir's existentialist feminism theory. The results of the study show that women because of their otherness often get injustice in gender relations. In order for women to gain their own existence, women must fight back by carrying out four strategies of self-transcendence according to Beauvoir, namely working, becoming an intellectual figure, working to achieve social transformation, and rejecting the other. Through research from Arte's manga, it can be concluded that a woman who wants to achieve her existence is not an easy thing to achieve. Women who want to get out of the shackles of patriarchy do not always get a positive response, and it takes more effort and hard work to achieve that existence.

Reimagining Trauma: Japanese American Incarceration Reflected in Kenji by Mike Shinoda
Journal of Language and Literature, Vol 23, Iss 1, Pp 46-55 (2023)
Trauma inherited by forbearers from those who had suffered racial injustice can endure so much consequence for later generations. Similarly, what had been affected to intergenerational Jews around the world about the Holocaust was, to an extent, repeated by Japanese Americans who had experienced incarceration during the World War II. This tragedy was recorded and reflected in several art and literary works including photography, short stories, and music. Interestingly, these eerie memories transmitted by the postgeneration or referred as ‘witness’ instead of ‘testifier’ (survivor) can be thoroughly seen present and well understood in such works. One of which is a song written by an American musician, Mike Shinoda, entitled Kenji. Therefore, this paper aims at figuring out on how this traumatic experience inhabited by the person who seemed to own the memories coming from someone else. Later in this study, the problem will be approached with postmemory by Frosh gradually by investigating constructive process in the lyrics of Kenji. In order to enhance discussion on this issue, the details of each line will be further analyzed with the concept of postmemory including memory, transmission and constructive process. As a result, the findings indicate that transmission of the trauma is reimagined through ‘actively’ constructive process by the songwriter as the ‘witness’ of the Japanese American incarceration. Rather than picturing the memory in similar context, the witness employs testimony in his creative reinvention to offer ‘new context’ in working through the trauma.

Risalah Perang Bone-Makassar: Transformasi Teks Fiksi Populer Gadis Portugis Karya Mappajarungi Manan

Using UV–Vis differential absorbance spectra of tropical peat water DOM fraction to determine trihalomethanes formation potential and its estimated cytotoxicity
Water Cycle, Vol 4, Iss , Pp 207-215 (2023)
Absorbance differential spectra could be utilized to identify dissolved organic matter (DOM) characteristics such as the disinfection by products (DBPs) formation. This research purposed to establish the relationship between absorbance differential spectra and trihalomethanes-4 (THM4) formation potential, as well as the estimated cytotoxicity of tropical peat water DOM percentage. The ion exchange resin was used to separate the DOM components from peat water. In addition, the UV–Vis spectrum was examined between 200 and 700 nm. The hydrophobic-acid (HPOA) fraction contains the highest concentration of dissolved organic carbon (DOC), THM4 production potential, and calculated cytotoxicity. On the other hand, the hydrophilic-neutral (HPIN) fraction has the lowest potential THM4 production. The UV–Vis absorbance spectra of all DOM fractions showed a comparable peak at 277 nm. The differential spectra of 277 nm (ΔA277) indicated a significant association with DOC concentration (99.6 %), trichloromethane (TCM) creation (86.6 %), total-THM4 (TTHM4) (81.3 %) formation, THM4 estimated cytotoxicity (89.7 %), and a moderate correlation with bromodichloromethane (BDCM) formation (55.6 %). Meanwhile, ΔA277 had a poor correlation with brominated THM4 formation potential (chlorodibromomethane (CDBM): 2.59, tribromomethane (TBM): 2.78 %). The absorbance differential spectra might be employed as a surrogate measure for the peat water DOM fraction and its precursor properties to form THM4 during the chlorination process, as well as its estimated cytotoxicity.

Characteristics and treatment methods for peat water as clean water sources: A mini review
Water Cycle, Vol 4, Iss , Pp 60-69 (2023)
Peatland is spread over the world providing unique organic-rich surface water. This product is called peat water, which is used as a clean source for drinking in several countries after the treatment, specifically in rural areas of Southeast Asia. Therefore, this research aimed to discuss the sources, characteristics, and available literature on peat water treatment (PWT). The results showed that the water contains hydrophobic high molecular weight natural organic matter (NOM) in form of humic and fulvic acids. These acid contaminants caused brownish color and acidic pH of the water. The performance of treatment processes such as filtration, adsorption, and ozonation also reduced the presence of NOM, while several chemical and physical parameters were discussed. Although reports regarding PWT were available, most of them only focused on the removal of standard physicochemical parameters such as color and pH. This was because there is still limited information on the removal of other parameters such as disinfection by-products (DBPs), organic matter fraction, and other emerging contaminants. Therefore, further investigation is needed on the PWT method as a source of clean water.

A comparison of three water discharge forecasting models for monsoon climate region: A case study in cimanuk-jatigede watershed Indonesia
Water Cycle, Vol 4, Iss , Pp 17-25 (2023)
Forecasting the discharge of the water resources model of a river or reservoir is crucial in making decisions on water resource management. Although numerous popular discharge forecasting models have been developed, real-time forecasts remain challenging. This study evaluates discharge forecasts using model of water balance model (FJ Mock and NRECA), autoregressive stochastic (Chain Markov). This study compared the accuracy of the discharge forecast results produced by the F.J. Mock, NRECA, and Markov Chain by five statistical indicators. Based on the simulation results, these models all have an accuracy level of probability in discharge ranging from above 70% which indicates a significant relationship between each model and are suitable alternatives for forecasting discharge and indicating an increase or decrease in discharge of up to 70% is predictable using this model. In comparison to other models, the highest correlation (r) is the Markov Chain model (0.84) with KGE (0.81) and the next sequence is the NRECA, and F.J. Mock. Therefore, the most accurate, precise, and representative water source model alternative for forecasts is the Markov Chain model. The FJ Mock model and the NRECA model are physical-based rainfall-runoff models, while the Markov model is time series generation model. In addition, this model is to be selected as the basis for modeling in forecasting river flow or optimal management of a reservoir, as well as determining the future discharge, especially in monsoon climate regions.

The World through the Eyes of Travel Writers: Agustinus Wibowo’s Selimut Debu and Jihan Davincka’s Memoar of Jeddah
Jurnal Ilmiah Lingua Idea, Vol 13, Iss 1, Pp 12-24 (2022)
This paper investigates depictions of the world in two travel stories by Agustinus Wibowo in Selimut Debu (2010) and Jihan Davincka in Memoar of Jeddah (2013). The dissimilarity of both stories particularly in projecting the view of the world does not only accentuate different nuances but also the propensity of authors’ observations towards the objects they encounter such as places, people, and culture. Therefore, this study focuses on how travel writings own distinct ways in narrating the story of the author’s journey. In accordance with the problem, this study employed theoretical concepts proposed by Thompson specifically about reporting the world; that travel writers have certain tendency in their descriptions of the objects they see and involvement of the ‘self’ during the journey. This study then explores these two works to seek the data indicating the subjectivity to be sequentially selected and analysed. Eventually, it is found that Selimut Debu performs alteration in the involvement of the ‘self’; while Memoar of Jeddah emphasises more on personal involvement.

Locality in Makoto Shinkai’s Kimi no Na wa: Negotiating Japanese Youth Identity
Izumi, Vol 10, Iss 1, Pp 21-31 (2021)
Japan becomes one of the countries that has been producing worldwide popular culture, namely through anime. Besides its popularity which attracts wider audiences, anime cultivates cultural content as it is also found in popular anime entitled “Kimi no Na wa”. Aside from its popular culture, Japan has undoubtedly been known for its ‘high culture’ products such as haiku or Zen, to which Japanese identity is attached. Then, the content of Japanese locality performed in the anime highlights some crucial issues related to Japanese identity, including the problematic relationship between traditionality and modernity, generations, and genders. Thus, the local content in the anime is interesting to scrutinize how traditional values are depicted and negotiated concerning Japanese identity. Since this study is descriptive-qualitative research, it answers the problem by describing the phenomenon and employing the interpretative method by Hall’s concept of identity. The selected data related to locality and identity obtained from the movie and poster are grouped and approached by Hall’s semiotic representation to see the relation to its significations. Finally, this brings out the interpretation of the data indicating that the anime portrays the ‘return’ to local culture. It is referred to as ‘nihonjinron’, which is particularly emphasized in youth life. Through this film, the identity is negotiated. The characters (Taki and Mitsuha) perform post-modern subjects; a case in point accepts the changes as they develop their identity in the current era.

Locality in Humor Show entitled 'Bocah Ngapa(K) Ya'
Journal of Language and Literature, Vol 21, Iss 1, Pp 14-23 (2021)
This article discusses a humor show which was initially aired on YouTube channel entitled “Bocah Ngapa(K) Ya”. This show particularly brings out humorous content with local dialects and exhibits local nuances of the Ngapak-speaking community. This phenomenological quality expressed by the Ngapak-speaking community as ‘self’ is understood as locality through which it connects the identity of the Ngapak-speaking community with a wider audience (global society). However, the locality displayed through such kind of shows can potentially perpetuate stereotyped identity. Thus, this article examines locality displayed in a particular humor show namely “Bocah Ngapa(K) Ya” which offers an alternative identity of the Ngapak-speaking community. Central to the analysis is an argumentation that the depiction of Ngapak people in “Bocah Ngapa(K) Ya” subverts their stereotyped identity. The purpose of this study is to reveal hierarchical identities and to present an alternative to view this local identity based on the local context and humor delivery in the humor show. The method employed is cultural studies approach in order to view this cultural phenomenon. Through this study, it is found that the locality performed in this humor indicates a contemporary identity for the Ngapak people in the current era, which posits Ngapak people beyond their prevailing identity.

Herpetofaunal Assemblages in the Lowland Regions of Sumatera Barat
Journal of Tropical Biodiversity and Biotechnology, Vol 7, Iss 1 (2022)
The habitat destruction and land-use changes caused the decline of animal composition in many tropical regions. Here, we study the diversity of herpetofauna in the lowland areas in Sumatera Barat, a midwestern province in Sumatera island, using a visual encounter survey method. The surveyed habitat included rubber plantations, streams, paddy fields, and peat swamps. We observed 338 individuals representing 44 species from 14 families of herpetofauna with almost 90% individuals were amphibians. Overall, the rubber plantations contained a higher number of species than other types of habitat. For amphibians, Ranidae and Dicroglossidae represented the first and the second highest both in the species and individual number. For reptiles, Agamidae and Colubridae or Gekkonidae accounted for the first and the second highest in the individual number while Colubridae and Scincidae consisted of the highest species number. Our data showed that the diversity index was mostly in moderate level except in paddy field. The species composition in rubber plantations were more similar to those of streams rather than paddy field or peat swamp Sago habitat.

Japanese people's trust is a belief inherited from time immemorial and is still maintained today. This can be seen from popular works that still raise traditional Japanese values. One of them is the anime Natsume Yuujinchou raising the values of Japanese people's beliefs about gods or Us and the life of the unseen. This study was about to describe the beliefs of Japanese people found in the anime Natsume Yuujinchou. The research method used to explore Japanese people's trust is a qualitative descriptive method. The approach used is literary anthropology. Found five concepts of Japanese people's beliefs from the anime, namely, 1) trust in the existence of a god; 2) trust in inanimate objects and can live if entered by the spirit; 3) belief in vengeance or punishment invisibly; 4) belief in the manifestations of kindness and evil from the spirit; 5) belief in souls (spirits) or spirits (spirits) in plants or animals The conclusions of this study are Japanese people's beliefs contained in the Natsume Yuujinchou anime in the form of supernatural concepts, soul concepts (souls) and spirits (spirits), and the concept of retaliation (tatari).

Advertising language: A pragmatic approach to cigarette advertisements in Indonesia
Issues in Language Studies, Vol 3, Iss 1 (2014)
In Indonesia, it has been a public knowledge that cigarette is dangerous to consume. However, the involvement of advertisement and its huge economic benefit has driven the government to freely let cigarette be widely promoted; nevertheless the image of the cigarette would not be shown on the screen as per agreement with advertisers. These series of complexities in the cigarette advertisements have attracted the authors to investigate the way cigarettes are promoted without explicitly exposing them. Using inferential pragmatic approach (Sperber & Wilson, 2002), this research reveals that the language of advertisements operate subtly at the level of cognition and comprehension to persuade smokers.
