The Small Time.
Nation. 10/17/1987, Vol. 245 Issue 12, p422-425. 4p.
The article presents information about various manuscripts published in several magazines. There is a remarkable essay by the author Andrei Codrescu from his work "The Disappearance of the Outside," which the author won't even try to summarize with adjectives. Codrescu is of course active as well in editing the indispensable "Exquisite Corpse." "New England Review and Bread Loaf Quarterly," features a poem by the poet Albert Goldbarth that somehow addresses the is sues of torture, violence against women and mass murder in the context of the adventures of the Donald Duck family of Duckburg.

This article focuses on an adventure made by artist Joseph Knowles into the wilderness in Maine in 1913. Knowles' purpose is to demonstrate that modern men can live and survive in the wilderness just like primitive ancestors. He vowed to return to civilization after two months in a healthy condition. The "Post" magazine was responsible for monitoring developments in Knowles' adventure. The adventure was a success.

Gênero e Atividades de Aventura em Periódicos Internacionais de Ciências Humanas.
Impulso. Jul-Dec2010, Vol. 20 Issue 50, p63-72. 10p.
This qualitative study investigated the thematic approaches on gender and adventure activities in the scientific works published in international journals, presented in the databases of Capes Journal Portal, in the field of Humanities, focusing on the subcategories of Sociology and Psychology in the period between January 2006 and June 2010. For the development of this paper we made use of systematic review and exploratory research and data were descriptively analyzed through the Thematic Content Analysis Technique. Results show that six articles addressed the adventure activities as a central theme under three categories: adventure activities and subjective elements (3), adventure activities and their educational potential (1) and the pursuit of sensations (2). While literature shows many positive aspects in different levels of human development in experiences with adventure activities, the production of scientific studies on this subject is still scarce. We suggest new looks on this issue in the area of Humanities in order to better understand the complexity of human involvement with nature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Magazines for February.
Nation. 2/16/1871, Vol. 12 Issue 294, p111-112. 2p.
The article comments on various manuscripts published in the Galaxy and the Atlantic magazines. Both contain articles which are very well worth the attention of persons who care nothing for most of the periodical literature. The best thing in the Atlantic is "Recollections of Hawthorne," which constitute an important addition to American literary ana. "The Friend of My Youth" is some account of an odd adventurer and rascal, whom the author T.B. Aldrich calls "The Friend of My Youth," and concerning whom he makes a sketch that is agreeably humorous.

The Magazines for August.
Nation. 8/4/1870, Vol. 11 Issue 266, p78-79. 2p.
"Hours at Home" tells something new about the educational work carried on in Syria. Few people know of this, but it is important and interesting. "The August Atlantic" is a good number, though not a great one by any means. "In the Greenwood" is a very pleasant and lively little story; or rather, it is a very lively and pleasant sketch, partly or wholly true, one suppose, of the adventures of a pair of ladies in a backwoods cabin in Maine. There is a queer freshness in it, as if it had been done by an American woman whose training had been in many ways different from that of the ordinary American girls, but yet had much, too, in common with it.

This article presents views of readers regarding articles on adventure and travel that appeared previously in the periodical "National Geographic Adventure." According to Michael Levine as an avid telemark skier, he could not help but notice in the February 2004 issue two statements discouraging readers from learning the telemark ski technique — one in a Next Weekend entry about skiing the Sierra and the other in the Essentials, about ski touring. Mastering the telemark turn isn't easy at first, but it can open up a whole new world for any skier.
