GOOD GOING.
Sierra. Jan/Feb2007, Vol. 92 Issue 1, p21-21. 1p.
The article relates the author's views about sandhill cranes the Platte River in Nebraska. It was between late February and mid-April when 500,000 sandhill cranes descend on the Platte River Valley, a sliver of threatened habitat critical to North America's Central Flyway. They come from scattered wintering grounds in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and Mexico. During the night, cranes roost on shallow, submerged sandbars in the river's widest channels, some a quarter mile across, a distance that protects the birds from predators.
