The Eclectic Magazine

The Eclectic Magazine was the short title of an American magazine that reprinted works from abroad in the 19th and early 20th century. Its full title varied somewhat over time. (There is a Wikipedia article about this serial.)

Publication History

The Eclectic Magazine began in 1844 as The Eclectic Magazine of Foreign Literature, Science, and Art. The first series ran for 63 volumes, and then a second series of 68 volumes began in 1865. A third series began in 1899, when it was renamed Eclectic Magazine and Monthly Edition of The Living Age. In 1901, the title reverted to The Eclectic Magazine of Foreign Literature, Science, and Art. The official title shortened to The Eclectic Magazine in 1905, and volume numbering shifted to overall numbering in 1906. The Eclectic Magazine ceased publication in 1907.
