The Engineering Index

The Engineering Index was a periodically published index of engineering literature. Its exact full title varied over time, and sometimes also varied for different editions.

Publication History

The Engineering Index traces its origins back to 1884, when an index began to be published in issues of the Journal of the Association of Engineering Societies. For 1892 onward The Engineering Index became a standalone publication, and the index of publications before then was republished as Descriptive Index of Current Engineering Literature. For parts of the run of The Engineering Index, index installments were published monthly (sometimes as part of The Engineering Magazine, and sometimes standalone under the title Engineering Index Monthly), and accumulated into annual volumes sometimes known as Engineering Index Annual. Periodic issues ceased in the early 21st century, and the Engineering Index has now been merged into the Compendex database.
