Journal of the Franklin Institute is a long-running journal on engineering and applied mathematics affiliated with Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. (There is a Wikipedia article about this serial.)

Publication History

Journal of the Franklin Institute began in 1826 as The Franklin Journal and American Mechanic's Magazine. A second series, titled Journal of the Franklin Institute of the State of Pennsylvania, began in 1828. A third series began in 1841. The title went through some other variations in the 19th century, but was known simply as Journal of the Franklin Institute by the end of it. Overall volume numbering (taking into account the volumes of the first two series) was also shown on title pages partway through the third series, and became the standard numbering in 1891. No issue or contribution copyright renewals were found for this serial. An open access spinoff, Franklin Open, began in 2022. Journal of the Franklin Institute is still published today.
