Journal of the Royal African Society began in 1901 as Journal of the African Society. (It was awarded the "Royal" designation in 1935, but some reprints of early volumes use the "Royal African Society" designation.) No issue or contribution copyright renewals were found for this serial. (More details) It ran until 1944, when it was renamed African Affairs, the name under which it is published today.
