Publication History
Ladies' Home Journal began publication in 1883 as "The Ladies' Home Journal and Practical Housekeeper". It dropped the latter part of the name in the late 1880s. The first actively copyright-renewed issue is February 1930 (v. 47 no. 2), © January 28, 1930. The first actively copyright-renewed contribution is from February 1930 (v. 47 no. 2). (More details) It published its last issue in 2016.
Persistent Archives of Complete Issues
- 1884: The Internet Archive has most of volume 1, scanned from microfilm. We did not find the first issue here.
- 1885-1889: HathiTrust has volumes 2-6, published under the longer "...and Practical Housekeeper" name.
- 1889-1929: HathiTrust has volumes 7-40, parts of volumes 41 and 42, volume 43, parts of volumes 44 and 45, and volume 46 available as page images. Many later volumes can be searched but not read online.
- 1908: The Internet Archive has volume 25, number 7, the summer fashion number, dated June 1908, scanned in full color.
- 1909: The Internet Archive has volume 26, number 8, a love story number, dated July 1909, scanned in full color. A couple of pages are missing from this copy.
- 1924: The Internet Archive has volume 41, scanned from black and white microfilm.
- 1925: The Internet Archive has volume 42, scanned from black and white microfilm.
- 1926: The Internet Archive has volume 43, scanned from black and white microfilm.
- 1927: The Internet Archive has volume 44, scanned from black and white microfilm. The April and November issues may be included in the March and October issue scans, respectively, and lack covers.
- 1928: The Internet Archive has volume 45, scanned from black and white microfilm. The June issue may be included in the May issue scan, and lack a cover.
- 1929: The Internet Archive has volume 46, scanned from black and white microfilm. The September issue may be included in the August issue scan, and lack a cover.
