National Institute of Justice Journal (or NIJ Journal) is a journal published by the U. S. Department of Justice.

Publication History

National Institute of Justice Journal began publishing under that title in 1992, succeeding the National Institute of Justice Reports and continuing its issue numbering. It is still published today. In 2025 a researcher noticed that at least one article, from 2024, had been quietly removed from the official online copies of issues.

Persistent Archives of Complete Issues

• 1992-2009: HathiTrust has issues 225-248 and 250-264, scanned from print.
• 1994-present: The National Institute of Justice has issues from 228 onward, some of which may have redactions.
• 2024: We list What NIJ Research Tells Us About Domestic Terrorism by Steven Chermak et al., an article that was published in issue #285 (June 2024) of the NIJ Journal but was deleted from the official online copy in 2025.
