Northwestern Reporter

Northwestern Reporter (also titled North Western Reporter) is an edited compilation of US state court rulings and opinions from Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, the Dakotas, and Wisconsin, published by West Publishing, now part of Thomson Reuters. It is published in multiple editions, initially in individual issues or online files, and later in "permanent edition" bound volumes. (There is a Wikipedia article about this serial.)

Publication History

Northwestern Reporter began in 1879. A second series began in 1942. It is still published today. The first actively copyright-renewed issue is v. 221 permanent edition, © January 30, 1929. We know of no actively copyright-renewed contributions. (More details) Judicial rulings and opinions are in the public domain in many states, but some states may claim copyright over them, and West also claims copyright over the notes it adds.
