Publishers Weekly traces its history back to 1872, when it was published as "The Publishers' and Stationers' Weekly Trade Circular", though predecessor publications go back to the 1850s. The shorter "Publishers Weekly" name first appeared in 1873, and has sometimes included an apostrophe. The first actively copyright-renewed issue is March 14, 1936 (v. 129 no. 11).
