Scribner's Monthly first appeared in 1870, absorbing the second incarnation of Putnam's. After a company sale in 1881, it turned into the Century Magazine (listed separately). Another monthly magazine titled Scribner's Magazine (also listed separately) began a few years later, in 1887.
