Samuel Ayscough (29 November 1745 – 30 October 1804) was an English writer and scholar. He was best known for publishing his Index on Shakespeare (1790). His index was revised and expanded by English writer Mary Cowden Clarke. He was described as the "Prince of Index Makers" and was very well known throughout his lifetime.
