Theodore Canot

(Canot, Theodore, 1804-1860)

The inspection and sale of a Negro.African man being inspected prior to sale into slavery. Also present are African slave traders who are presumably selling the man to white traders. Engraving by Whitney, Jocelyn & Annin, after Frank Blackwell Mayer, was originally published in Captain Canot, or Twenty Years of an African Slaver by Brantz Mayer. It depicts an African man being inspected by a white man while another white man talks with slave traders.
