Fanny Hill is the common title of an 18th century erotic novel by John Cleland. Its originally published, "Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure", is usually considered its formal title for bibliographic purposes. Bibliographic notesFanny Hill was first published in London in two installments in 1748 and 1749. The author was arrested over the book in 1749, and publication was withdrawn. The book has since been published in various legal and underground editions. It has been published openly in the US since 1966, after the Supreme Court cleared it of obscenity charges. See also
