The Divine Comedy ("La Divina Commedia" in the original Italian) is a three-part Italian poem by Dante Alighieri, relating a journey through Hell ("Inferno"), Purgatory ("Purgatorio") and Heaven ("Paradiso"). This page lists editions of the complete poem. We also list separately some editions of the individual parts, such as the Inferno.
Bibliographic notes
Dante worked on The Divine Comedy for many years, distributing manuscripts of the work's three parts starting in the early 14th century. The last part was completed shortly before Dante's death in 1321. Many manuscript copies dating back to the 14th century still exist, though there are no known surviving copies in Dante's own hand. Translations into various languages began to appear in the early 15th century. The first printed edition of the Italian text was published in 1472.
