King Henry VIII

by William Shakespeare

contrib. by John Fletcher

King Henry VIII is a play about Henry VIII, Cardinal Wolsey, and Anne Boleyn, published in the First Folio of William Shakespeare's works.

Bibliographic notes

King Henry VIII was first published in 1623 in the First Folio. That publication is the basis of later editions. Since the mid-19th century, many Elizabethan literature scholars have considered the play to be a collaboration between Shakespeare and John Fletcher, based on its style rather than on any contemporary mention of Fletcher's involvement. There is not a definite consensus on the extent of Shakespeare's and Fletcher's contributions to the play.
