The Federalist

The Federalist, or the Federalist Papers, was a series of 85 essays written by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay promoting the ratification of the United States Constitution.

Bibliographic notes

The essays in The Federalist were first published in New York newspapers in 1787 and 1788. They first appeared in book form in a 2-volume set published in 1788. The Constitution was ratified by 11 states in 1788, and went into effect the following year.
