Here are listed editions of Martin Luther's German translation of the Bible. This translation, and revisions of it, were used for a long time by the Lutheran Church and some other Protestant churches. It was influential in the development of both Protestantism and the German language. Bibliographic notesLuther worked with other translators beginning in the 1520s. The first edition of the New Testament translation, based on Greek as well as Latin texts, was published in 1522. The first edition of the complete Bible translation was published in 1534. Luther worked on revisions of the translation until shortly before his death in 1546, and further revisions have been made since. See also |
