Der Achtzehnte Brumaire des Louis Bonaparte is the original German title of an analysis by Karl Marx of the seizures of power in France by Napoleon Bonparte in 1799, and by Napoleon III in 1851. Most English translations title it The Eighteenth Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte or The Eighteenth Brumaire of Louis Napoleon.
Bibliographic notesDer Achtzehnte Brumaire des Louis Bonaparte was originally published in Die Revolution, a German-language American periodical, in 1852, not long after Napoleon III's coup. It was later printed in book form, both in German and in translations into English and other languages. Some later editions include prefaces by Friedrich Engels or other Marxists.
