The Age of Reason

The Age of Reason is a work by Thomas Paine arguing for deism and free rational inquiry, and against Biblical religion and atheism.

Bibliographic notes

The first part of The Age of Reason was written in 1793, and first published in either 1793 or 1794. The second part was first published in 1795. Some material Paine planned to include in a third part was published in 1807 under the title "An Examination of the Passages of the New Testament". Most editions published after Paine's death in 1809 include both Parts I and II; some also include the 1807 "Examination" publication, or related writings.
