The Partisan Leader

by Beverley Tucker

The Partisan Leader is an 1836 novel written by Beverley Tucker of Virginia, imagining a future secession and rebellion of southern states.

Bibliographic notes

As "a tale of the future", The Partisan Leader was first published in 1836, but with a title page dated 1856, with the author given as "Edward William Sidney", the name of the novel's narrator. After actual civil war broke out in the 1860s, the novel was republished in cities on both sides of the conflict, in new editions that presented it as prophetic, or as evidence of a longstanding covert conspiracy.
