A couple of readers have now informed me that Steven Fishman's
book _The Public Domain_, is now available from Nolo Press.
Fishman, a regular on the CNI-Copyright mailing list, and
the author of Nolo Press' _Copyright Handbook_ (which I've
read and recommended), has written this new book focusing
specifically on the public domain. It includes information
on how to tell whether something is in the public domain,
as well as where to find public-domain materials.
(I'm also told that some of the folks on this list, or
their sites, are mentioned at various points in the book.)
I cover some of these topics myself at
http://digital.library.upenn.edu/books/okbooks.html
but I can only go into so much detail there. I'm glad to see
there's now a book-length treatment of the subject, from someone
who (unlike me) is actually a lawyer with expertise in intellectual
property law.
I haven't yet seen the full book, but I would guess it would be
of interest to some of the folks on this list. Nolo's page on the book,
with more information and ordering links, is at
http://www.nolo.com/product/PUBL/summary_PUBL.html?t=02590000803202000SubcategoryID*8
I'd be happy to hear (and forward) reviews, comments, or questions
on this book from members of this list.
