Book people:
The CCEL (http://www.ccel.org) has on on-line proofreading and editing
software system for what I am calling "digital facsimile editions." You can
make a digital facsimile edition out of page scans and OCR results fairly
easily, and your library users can correct and mark up pages on line. I'm
making the source code available under a GNU public license.
Restrictions and limitations: you'll need Apache/PHP, Perl, MySQL, and
ImageMagick software installed. Also, the system is designed to work with
ThML (Theological Markup Language, as defined and used on the CCEL), and it
will need a bit of tweaking to use with generic HTML or some other markup
language. Finally, it's a bit raw, maybe a beta release of the software, not
having been tested much.
If you're interested in trying it out, see http://www.ccel.org/facsim .
Also, send me your comments, improvements, etc.
