Books that never existed

The Boston Globe 2001-03-10, p2, reports at
http://www.boston.com/dailyglobe2/069/living/Death_of_a_thriller_stirs_mystery_in_publishing_circles+.shtml
(unwrap as needed)

that a division of Random House has taken back
a book after it was printed but before being sold.
(Evidently because of some legal threats or libel
problems.)

A similar withdrawal of a book about George W. Bush
was withdrawn in 1999.

One bookseller is reported to have said, "We got an
e-mail message saying 'Take all information about
the book off your Web site, including the image of
the jacket.' It's as if the book had never existed."

Books that never existed never need to be banned.
Unpublishing is never having to say you are sorry.
