This is a busy time for display technology -- there are a lot of different
things that are being developed at the moment that are probably less than
a decade away from marketing (I was just a few minutes ago talking to
someone who is working on electron field emitters for displays). Not all
of them will work well, but some will. If you're looking for something
small to carry but big to read, I suppose you either want a very
high-resolution display or something you can fold up. I'm sure somebody
is working on the former, but I haven't heard of anything with print-like
resolution yet. Fold-up screens are something that have been claimed to
be possible in the near future with polymer light emitting substances,
which I find believable.
