Don't write off electronic paper

         WebPosted Tue Apr 24 14:23:33 2001

CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS - A new
technology promises to make electronic
screens easier to read.

The technology could be used to develop a
gadget that combines the best of the old and
new. It would work like a cell phone or a palm
device but would have pages to turn like a
book.

Researchers at Bell Laboratories and E Ink
Corp. have invented a new type of electronic
paper that displays text on thin, flexible sheets
of plastic that look and feel like paper.
....
The plastic sheets are filled with tiny balls of
dye that float to the surface to create the
images. The balls are controlled by electronic
charges.
