Customers spurning e-books
CHICAGO (AP) - Two-thirds of U.S. online consumers have heard of e-books
but only one in four are giving much thought to buying one, according to a
survey released Thursday.
[Moderator: Rest of content snipped, with Rod's okay. See the URL above for
the full article. A summary of some of the more interesting points from
this survey of over 3000 online users:
-- 3% of surveyed users said they'd be "very likely" to buy an e-book;
20% somewhat likely.
-- 3/4s of the respondents say an e-book should cost less than a
hardback or paperback version. (The article then notes that
many ebooks are priced higher, citing how
Amazon sells Frank McCourt's 'Tis_ for $20.80 in e-book form and
$8.09 in paperback. My own check at Amazon verifies this, and
also turns up an offer of used print copies for $3.50.) - JMO]
