Xerox Textbridge to merge with Omnipage

I just receievd notice from Xerox that Textbridge is being discontinued
and users are being given a chance to "upgrade" to Caere's Omnipage for
$90. For those of you not "in the know", Textbridge is an OCR program in
th $50-100 dollar range, while Omnipage goes for far more, typically
several hundred bucks.

Apparently this correlates to another headline I read about Xerox
leaving the "SOHO" (Small Office/Home Office) business all together,
including small copiers and laser printers.

I guess this wouldn't matter too much except the number of big deal
commercial OCR programs is now down to one... OmniPage.

There was a thread about some lesser known OCR programs on this list a
while back, and I examined several of them. None quite did what I
needed, but with Xerox out of the game these programs will be
increasingly important.

Too bad Xerox didn't have time to get all the bugs out of Textbridge,
I've been using it for over five years and it's always had the same
bugs!!
