That's because they're the *media*; most of the mainstream media is
involved in the business of selling information, so the concept that
someone would give it away for free is foreign to them.
A couple of years ago I gave at talk at a regional meeting of
university publishers, in which I told them about all the people who
were giving away information online for free. I think I kind of
scared them...
