THE RHETORIC OF E-BOOKS: WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES
A year ago AOL Time Warner books division chairman Laurence Kirschbaum was
saying: "We want to see electronic publishing blow the covers off of
books." Now he's saying: "Perhaps we were too-early adapters. We were the
early birds who went out to catch the early worms and there weren't very
many." And what will the future bring? "I still think the electronic
business is going to take off. It is taking longer than expected, but
everything in my gut says now is the time to push harder rather than slow
down." (New York Times 28 Aug 2001)
