Dear All,
A new free translation of Ovid's Heroides is now available at the Ovid
and Others site:
http://www.tkline.freeserve.co.uk
The Heroides are not too well known but very interesting, especially
if you like Mythology. They are fictional letters from eighteen
mythological women to their lovers or ex-lovers (and three replies..the
double letters). Ovid chooses a psychologically interesting moment in
each of their lives, and presents the female voice in a direct way not
often heard in the Roman world, revealing his humanism and empathy.
The women include Dido, Phaedra, Ariadne, Medea, Helen and Hero....and
the historical Sappho....
