Apologies to you Baroness Orczy fans that were looking
forward to reading the Pimpernel online books that I listed
on Friday, linking to a GeoCities site. When I checked back today,
I was getting "over transfer limit" messages from that site
Apparently GeoCities now has fairly low limits on how much data can
get shipped out from their free pages, and once that limit
is crossed, it won't serve any more pages from that account
for a while.
I don't know how much effect my listing of these titles
in New Books had to do with this. But if you're planning
on putting a book online, you might want to check to see
whether there's a limit on how much data you can transfer
from your site. (And I will tend to prefer listings on
non-GeoCities sites, or spread out additions from that site
so they don't all appear at the same time, at least if there
are ads on the page. It does appear that "premium" hosting,
where the ads can be omitted, has higher transfer limits.)
Meanwhile, I'll be switching to a Fortunecity site for my listings
of _The League of the Scarlet Pimpernel_ and _Lord Tony's Wife_.
(This site may have been where the GeoCities site was pointing
for the actual text.)
I'm still looking for new homes for _I Will Repay_ and _The
Triumph of the Scarlet Pimpernel_. But there do seem to be
a number of fans of the Scarlet Pimpernel around; if you're
one of them, and you have a book site, you might want to pick
them up yourself.
