This is even more interesting when one considers lost-wax (cire perdue)
casting --- print up a ring ready-engraved w/ one's beloved's name et voila!
instant culmination of an affair of the heart.

Hmm, wonder if it'd be possible to do castings for all the parts of an AK-47
which aren't stamped out of sheet metal --- scary, no?

(who at one time had a book on how to create a metal lathe using investment
castings on the premise that a lathe is the only tool in a metal shop which
can duplicate itself, and one could then use it to make more tools (say a
drill press))
