(22 Aug) Publisher HarperCollins and Austin, Texas-based LibreDigital
announced a service called LibreDigital Warehouse that will enable
delivery of searchable book content from a Web site. While touted as a
threat to Google's book project, it appears to be more competitive with
Amazon's Search Inside This Book feature.

"[T]he service will allow users to search the entire content of a book and
preview a percentage of its text and illustrations." It also will allow
publishers to customize the viewable pages in a book as well as the percent
of the whole book that is viewable.

Readers, please correct me if I am wrong. But I believe Google's intent
is to provide a snippet of keywords-in-context along with bibliographic
and library location information, which differs greatly from the service
described in the press release and that provided by Amazon.com.
