"Unexplored Syria" by Sir Richard Burton and Charles F. Tyrwhitt Drake.

It's a two-volume book, only to be purchased at great expense if you are
after the original 1872 edition published in London by Tinsley Brothers.
Author Sir Richard Burton (1821-1890), co-author Charles Frederick Tyrwhitt
Drake.
There was also an 1875 and an 1879 edition of a book by Burton's wife
Isabel, "The Inner Life of Syria, Palestine and the Holy Land" published by
Keegan Paul, London. The 1879 edition was printed more cheaply and did not
have the map that the 1875 edition had.
Isabel (Lady Burton) wrote this book from her private diaries, presumably
made while travelling with Sir Richard. It's probably more accessible, and
possibly more interesting, than "Unexplored Syria". There's a map, some
photographs and coloured plates.
There are reprints of Sir Richard's book by Kessinger and by BookSurge, with
prices around $25.
