i read jesse's comment as neither "insensitive" nor a "rant".

and for all we know, he regularly donates to charities.

as for bloggers (or anyone else) asking for donations,
i don't see anything wrong with it.   what seems weird,
to me anyway, is for people to believe that their blog is
special enough that it would _warrant_ any donations...

some are, sure.   but the vast majority fail to rise above 
the massive amount of free content available otherwise.

the easiest way to pull in money, of course, is adsense.
but that's creating an online atmosphere polluted by ads.
